Rainy day activities at Surfers Paradise
The Gold Coast is all about sunshine, hot beach sand and the glittering blue ocean… But guess what? Sometimes, it rains. Not the ideal type of weather for your holiday, but there are fun things that you can do when it rains in Surfers Paradise – we pick five of our faves.
1. Play, win, grin!
Rain or shine, Timezone Surfers Paradise is the perfect place for spending a rainy day. This iconic Gold Coast entertainment hotspot boasts more than 200 arcade games (one of the biggest arcade game collections in Australia) and loads of entertainment experiences for young and old, from laser tag and bumper cars to mini bowling lanes and a glow-in-the-dark mini golf experience. You’ll be wishing for more rain to spend extra time in discovering all the cool stuff to do at Timezone Surfers Paradise... Rainy weather also gives you more time to rack up enough Powertickets to reward yourself with a cool prize from the iconic in-store Timezone prize shop. And when you get hungry, you can refuel at our on-site café. Rain? Bring it, we say!
2. Bee positive
When the clouds gather, head to Superbee Honeyworld in Currumbin for a sweet escape. Visitors can learn more about the buzzing world of bees with live working beehive viewings and honey collection demos. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to help these vital pollinators and indulge your sweet tooth while you’re at it – there are more than 20 varieties of honey to sample and buy. It’s a hive of activity for the whole family!
3. Get arty
ArtVo Gold Coast is Queensland’s first immersive ‘trick art’ gallery – which basically means you can take loads of selfies and pictures of you and your friends interacting with the skilful murals and fun art pieces spread throughout the gallery. Strike a pose and be the art! Always wanted to float on that door from Titanic? Here you can do it. Want to pretend to drink rainwater dropping off a lily pad leaf held by a frog? Wish granted!
4. Embrace the weird
For a truly bizarre rainy-day adventure, venture into Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in Surfers Paradise. Prepare to be amazed (and maybe a little freaked out) by the strange and extraordinary, from two-headed cows to wedding dresses made of toilet paper. It’s a museum like no other, guaranteed to leave you scratching your head about humans and their peculiarities.
5. Cuddle a cat
Love all things fuzzy and furry? Visit the Crazy Cat Café in Surfers Paradise – fawning over a bunch of purring felines is guaranteed to make the wet-weather blues go away! This cat café meets animal welfare guidelines (always check for this!), and it’s also Australia’s first fully licensed cat café, meaning you can sip on a glass of vino while contemplating the beauty of your cat companion.
Dancing in the rain!
Well… Why not? You’re wet already, so have at it!
So, there you have it: some things you can do when it rains in the Gold Coast, guaranteed to cheer up the whole family!
